The short answer
No single site has every South African vacancy. Use two or three that match the work you want: job boards such as PNet and Careers24, LinkedIn for professional roles, Indeed, employers' own careers pages, and the DPSA vacancy circular for government posts. Job seekers never pay to apply.
No single site has every South African vacancy. Employers advertise on job boards, on LinkedIn, on their own careers pages, and government departments publish their posts in a weekly circular. Most people who find work quickly use two or three of these, chosen for the kind of job they want. Here is what each one is and who it suits.
Job boards: PNet, Careers24 and CareerJunction
South Africa's big job boards carry adverts from employers and recruitment agencies across most fields, from call centres and retail to finance, engineering and IT. You search, apply through the board, and can usually leave a profile that recruiters can find. They suit almost everyone in the private sector. PNet's terms say its services are free to job seekers; see Honde vs PNet for what we checked.
LinkedIn Jobs
LinkedIn is a professional network first: your profile and connections matter as much as the adverts. It suits office, professional and tech roles, and anyone a recruiter might search for. Keep your profile complete and matching your CV. More in Honde vs LinkedIn.
Indeed South Africa
Indeed hosts adverts and also gathers jobs from careers sites and other boards, so one search covers a lot. It also has company reviews and salary pages. See Honde vs Indeed.
Government posts: the DPSA vacancy circular
National and provincial departments advertise in the Department of Public Service and Administration's Public Service Vacancy Circular, and on their own websites. You apply to the department, not the DPSA, usually with a Z83 form and a CV. Read how to apply for government jobs first.
Employers' own careers pages
Banks, retailers, mines and large companies post every vacancy on their own careers site, often before or instead of a job board. If you know where you want to work, check those pages directly. Honde's company pages list who is hiring now and link each careers page.
Youth programmes, learnerships and internships
If you are young and starting out, SA Youth (the national youth network) lists opportunities, and learnerships and internships are advertised by employers and SETAs. Real ones never ask for money. See open learnerships, internships and the guide to learnerships and internships.
Where Honde fits
Honde isn't another board. It reads South African job boards, employers' careers pages and the government circular every morning, checks each listing is genuine and still open, ranks the jobs against your CV, and fills in the application for you to check. You can browse all open vacancies without an account.
How to use them together
- Pick two or three sources that match the jobs you want, and set up alerts on each.
- Keep one up-to-date CV that software can read: see the ATS-friendly CV guide.
- Apply on the employer's own site when an advert links there; that's where the application is processed.
- Never pay to apply. Read how to spot a fake job.
Questions people ask
Which job site has the most jobs in South Africa?
No site has them all. Job boards, LinkedIn, Indeed, employers' careers pages and the government's vacancy circular each carry jobs the others don't, so use two or three that match the work you want.
Where are government jobs advertised?
In the DPSA's Public Service Vacancy Circular and on each department's website. You apply to the department named in the advert, usually with a Z83 form and a CV.
Do I have to pay to use South African job sites?
Job seekers don't pay to search or apply on the main job sites. Anyone asking you for money to get a job is a scammer.
Is Honde a job board?
No. Honde gathers jobs from job boards, employers' careers pages and the government circular, checks they are genuine and open, ranks them against your CV and prepares your applications.
